What is the origin of standard 'c' note in music / piano etc.?
Middle C:

A colloquial name for the note of which the pitch is 256 Hz; it is probably so called because it is written on a ledger line midway between two staves bearing a treble and bass clef. The note is also near the middle of the keyboard and near the top of the male vocal range and the bottom of the female.
