Will a standard window unit a/c work if mounted on it's side?

I think I remember hearing that they won't but that was when I was around 30yrs ago and I know there have been a lot of improvements. My guess is no, but I figured I'd burn some points and ask anyway. Since there is at least a $200 difference in standard and casement a/c units.

no they will not and you can damage the unit beyond repair.oil in the compressor case can get into the suction line and bind the compressor.not a good idea.
Reply:yup it will...not for long though
Reply:simple NO it wont work on its side must remain flat
Reply:i would agree not.

it seems you haven't even thought about where the water thats produced when an air conditioner in use, is going to go.

air conditioners come in many various heights and widths these days which weren't abailable many years ago. search the internet to get ideas of the sizes you can now get.

also check the web at home depot %26amp; lowes.
Reply:They are not meant to be operated on their side. You can check different sites such as Sears that sells A/C units that are built tall and narrow.
